Has a thumb stud, blade hole or other feature to facilitate one-hand use. Some models are one-hand opening and one-hand closing as well.
This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
This blade is full bellied with a strong, thick point for heavier tasks. It can also be used as a general work knife. The top of the blade drops down toward the tip, which minimizes accidental puncturing while skinning. The drop point blade is strong and very versatile.
This knife has a sheath that can be carried horizontally or vertically. Which can almost make it disappear on your belt. Once open the rubber grip stay firm in your hand while field dressing your gamem even with bloddy hands. I just love the size and the grips. Looking to buy the one without the gut hook to be my new EDC knife.
I bought this blade from my favorite local hardware store. Probably overpaid a bit, but I enjoy supporting local business. This knife is everything I wanted. I have lots of knives from different manufacturers, but this time I wanted something special, made here, and a classic. This fits perfectly...it's beefy which gives it the complete feeling of reliability, as does the lock-up and centering. It moved a bit, but that is because I adjusted the detente so I could flip it open. It's hardly noticeable. It came sharp out of the box, however I went ahead and took it to a "filthy" sharp the level. The 420 takes an excellent edge with little effort. I have officially rediscovered Buck knives and am considering purchasing more of their timeless, legendary blades.
This knife was given to me by a friend. It was used when I got it, I used it steadily for about 7 years and lost it in the field while gutting a hog in the dark. 3 years later while walking the ranch, I stumble upon my knife, still open, with dried hog blood still on it. After 3 years out in the elements, the knife still had a razor edge and not a spot of rust.
I bought this knife after I bought my 110. It's not quite as bulky as the 110 on my hip and is easier to carry for every day use. Haven't skinned anything but small game with it but I am looking foward to see how it skins hogs and deer. Buck makes a quality knife so I shouldn't be disappointed. It's a tie between the alpha and the 110. They are two great knives!
I received this knife as a present from my uncle just before I deployed to Iraq back in 2007. I have used an abused this knife for going on 9 years now. It still looks great! It just needs a little sharpening but other than that it's been a great knife.
I found one of these knives while I was cutting weeds along the busy highway in front of my house. I bet it fell out of a motorcyclist sheath. I have several Chinese made knives similar to this but of different type steel and lighter. I know the poor fellow that lost it will be crying. Very nice quality knife. Will add to my knife collection. Expensive too. I lost a Victorinox pocket knife and now I found this. Guess I moved up.
I received the Alpha Hunter with rosewood handles as a father's day gift (good kid) 6 years ago. I beat the heck out of this knife...fishing, hunting, metal shop uses...you name it. Besides some careful sharpening and oiling (take care of your blade!) this knife is still perfect. Feels great in the hand, solid lock, quick action and a good edge bevel. I lost the first one fishing (left on top of the car while changing out of fishing gear) and without hesitation purchased another. Would buy this knife for anyone. Thanks Buck!
Forgot it was there on my Belt,. TSA @ Portland reminded me, and I had to check my Carry-On. No way I was going to give it up! Shipped it back to myself to prevent same error on return flight. Won't make the same mistake again. Love the knife! Holds an edge perfectly!
Just received this knife as a Christmas gift. I was very, very impressed with the factory edge. It's a hair shaver on my forearm for sure. Looks great too in addition to being solid in your hand.
until you hold this knife in your hand and open it and close it a few times will you understand how great this knife is... it simply fits your hand perfect...... I own both versions of it wood handle and rubber handle...gut hook and non gut
I actually have two of these knives. The first one I bought came with the rubber scales and the blade had the gut hook. It is in the regular stainless steel. The second one I bought in S30V steel with the rosewood scales. I always carry one of the two knives on my belt, usually the one with the rosewood handles as it is really a work of art. The S30V is more time consuming to sharpen though.
I love this knife because its so smooth and glides open with a flick. I end up opening and closing it, just to open it again, so I can be amazed at the solid construction of this knife. I have a few bucks including my 110 and I like this one the best. thank you Buck
I just bought the knive, i realy took some time several months to take some time to decide what knive it should be. But what a kwality, i am realy positive about the kwality and sharpnes..
I've bought the version with the gut hook, and the design of this knife will not disappoint. The folder action is super smooth, and the lockback has not failed me. Not that I don't mind sharpening a new knife myself, but as always Buck put a razor edge on this one right out of the box.
One of the best knives I've ever had and as a former marine i can safely say that i'm used to the best.
It's a really good knife
I have had this knife for years, it has been an all around useful tool for anything I've ever used it for. It keeps an edge very well and it is easy to sharpen, with very little maintenance it is still in near perfect condition. Thank you Buck making such a great knife.
My buck knofe was agift about ten years ago, it has become one of the best knives i've ever had (and i have lots ), its weight is perfect and its wicked sharp, only knife i have that i could shave with.
I bought this knife 3 years ago and I still love it as much as the day I bought it. The single hand operation is great and very useful. It locks open very securely and fits perfectly in my hand. I use it for everything from shaving tinder from firewood to field dressing game and have never been disappointed. I recommend it to anyone needing a high quality, all-purpose knife.
I love it I've had it for 2 years the handle is perfect the blade is nice it cuts really easy whenever I will would I never have any trouble using the blade but there could be some changes it'll be really nice if there could be a clip put on to it so you can put in your pocket and once you close the blade will be nice if it has that little Lock into the handle so that the blade won't fall out.
I have owned this knife for over 15yrs and it still holds a good edge; the blade is tight and free of nicks. The only thing that time has had an affect on is the side handles (gummy ,sticky) I could not have bought a better knife.
I had one of these knives a few years ago. Unfortunately for me it was stolen out of my truck. I came on the website to see if Buck still made this model. I am very pleased to see it is still around! This was my absolute most favored, highest quality folding knife I have ever owned. I miss this knife terribly. It was a part of me! Now I just need to wait until I have some extra money to get a new one. If anybody is looking to purchase a folding knife, this is the way to go! Also, might I add..... Way to go Buck! This one is a winner!!
The quality and craftmanship of this knife is exceptional. You can tell just how well this knife is made the minute you hold it. The weight and balance is great and it is the perfect size for people with larger hands. I own two of these knives myself - the black grip as well as the rosewood grip - and have purchased two others as gifts. By far the favorite knife in my colletion.
My aunt gave me one for my birthday and good knife by a good knife maker
The steel under the scales rusts pretty easily, even when used in dry conditions most of the time.
Just came back from a wedding out east. This knife was given to us groomsmen by the groom as a gift. This work of art is high quality and just amazing in it's craftsmanship. Best gift ever received for being in a wedding. Peace and Love be to us All!
I had the version of this knife with a guthook, at its pretty good, the sheath is of low quality, the button broke out of place after a few months, which is the reason for 4 anvils. The knife itself is great, really sharp out of the box, I used it to cut 2 inch manila rope, in addition to daily chores in my day to day work. I did break the tip when I tried to pry open a coconut shell, but I accept 100% responsibility of abusing the knife. Overall a great knife for anyone who is fine with the heavy weight and solid feel of this knife.
