This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
This knife is bad ass it is just what you need when you are in the woods all the time it is big
I talked to customer service about the small handle, but apparently my comments never got to the right people. My knife is sharp and the blade is beautiful. Buck needs to listen to their customer complaints about the handle.
Recently received my Model 916 Bowie. Fine craftsmanship. Razor-sharp blade out of the box. Overall a great Bowie, but the web page photo of the completed Bowie--with iron wood handle scales--was a bit misleading visually. They appeared adequate in size. The knife I received came with much smaller handles than anticipated. Agreed that the handle is too narrow. The handle length also is too short. Sadly, the Buck policy indicates that a custom-made knife is not returnable. My one concern aside, I'll hold onto this knife, hoping to pass it on at the proper time to my grandson. Maybe he'll have smaller hands than mine. Or maybe by then he'll have an interest in collecting quality made knives.
I agree with other comments about the small handle. Measures 3/4" across/down and is the same size has the traditional folding 110 or 112 models that sport a 3" blade, not a 7". Can barely get all fingers to fit on the grip. Other than that it is a nice looking knife.
Stunning, incredible craftsmanship. I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks so much, Buck, for making it possible for me to have this gorgeous knife.
Got mine with a elk horn handle, first thing I saw , for this size of knife handle is small and thin. If you have to wear gloves ,well, go figure. I expected a razor sharp blade from the factory, nope, it didn't happen. Don't get me wrong; ir is beautifully made, fix those details and will worth the $400.00+
Tthe handle on this knife is to small and doesn't fit in the hand and looks akward
Knife size is ok but handle is too small and thin!. Expected a professionaly sharpened blade; it didn't come sharpened!
I got the knife with the notched spine, polished blade, and ironwood handle. It's certainly very sharp, and it is beautiful. The fit and finish are perfect. The placement of my initials on the blade looks good. It balances just in front of the guard. But it's all about the blade. The handle is not ergonomic. It's like a short, narrow stick with a rectangular cross-section. But it's attractive in its simplicity. The polished ironwood finish is quite slick, which makes it that much harder to grip. If I were to actually use it I would wrap some tape around the handle for grip and thickness. But it's ok, I don't plan to use it. I bought it just for collecting.
