This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
This blade is full bellied with a strong, thick point for heavier tasks. It can also be used as a general work knife. The top of the blade drops down toward the tip, which minimizes accidental puncturing while skinning. The drop point blade is strong and very versatile.
For great performance when field dressing game, a gut or skinning hook is an ideal tool. We’ve paid careful attention to the angles on the sharpened edge, shape and size of the entry opening and location of the hook on the blade, making a Buck gut hook the best.
It's a little pricy
BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2016 A FRIEND OF MINE I CAMP WITH ON WEEKENDS HANDED ME A BUCK 691 ZIPPER WITH RUBBER HANDLE. WHEN I GOT IT I NOTICED THAT THE BLADE WAS DAMAGED . I CALLED BUCK AND THEY SAID TO PACKAGE IT UP AND SEND IT IN SO I DID JUST THAT. WHEN THE KNIFE CAME BACK THEY SENT ME A BRAND NEW ONE ALL I HAD TO DO WAS ORDER THE SHEATH BEING IT DID NOT HAVE A SHEATH WHEN I RECIEVED IT FROM MY FRIEND. I GOT TO USE IT ON MY UNCLES 6 POINT BUCK HE SHOT AT THE BEGINING OF DECEMBER DURING GUN SEASON IN OHIO I REALLY LIKE THIS KNIFE. THE 691 ZIPPER IS MY SECOND BUCK GUT HOOK KNIFE MY FIRST WAS A BUCK 679 MAX LIGHT GUT HOOK THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012. IT WAS MY PRIMARY GUT HOOK KNIFE TILL I RECIEVED THE 691 ZIPPER FROM A FRIEND. I REALLY LIKE THE WEIGHT AND FEEL OF THE BUCK 691 ZIPPER I THINK THIS WILL BE MY PRIMARY HUNTING KNIFE . I PLAN ON TAKING MY OTHER BUCK 679 TO MY CAMPER IN THE SPRING AND USING IT AS MY PRIMARY KITCHEN KNIFE WHILE CAMPING.
I got this knife from a friend this fall blade was damaged I sent it to Buck to see what they would do and to my surprise they sent me a new one and all I had to do was order a sheath for it. I brought it to Zanesville with me and we got to use it on my uncles 6 point buck and my cousin button buck the knife worked great I haven't even had to sharpen it yet. This will be my primary hunting knife from now on I really like it really well.
A perfect all-purpose hunting knife at an affordable, fair price. Small enough not to get in the way and large enough to perform well for most hunting needs. The customary Buck high quality finish - gorgeous. If you carry only one blade on a hunt, make it this one.
Going on 3 years using this knife as a gutting and skinning tool as well as muscle group separation on deer. It has never failed to deliver a consistent and durable edge. I have it sharpened to 30 degrees and over the years have skinned multiple deer without having to sharpen half way through like other knives. The black handle is durable and doesn't worry me when dropped or mistreated like a wood handle may. Truly great versatile knife. Thanks Buck.
Had this knife for 15 years always been good to me. Except it snapped 2 times where the hook is in the narrowest spot on the blade. Now I'm on my 3rd knife and haven't even broke her in yet.
This has been my primary hunting knife for almost 20 years. I've skinned dozens of whitetail deer and feral hogs in 6 states with it. I skinned an elk on a glacier with it. It's a great skinner and has done every single camp chore I've asked of it. Still razor sharp, still using the great original leather sheath. Blade touches up easily in seconds with a pocket sharpener. I love it. I paid about $40 for it back in the 90's. Money well spent.
I've had this 17 years now and it has never disappointed me I have used it on upland game and small game all the way up to whitetailed deer
I have mainly used buck knives since I was 12 years old. This knife holds a great edge with some work but when you find that happy point sharpening it I have gutted and skinned 3 elk and 5 deer with it in one year with little touch up and with that knife alone I have done close to 25 deer and 10 elk what a great knife I hope to hand it down when I have grandchildren! Thanks buck for a great product!!
Having had & used my Buck Zipper for 21 years I'm sad to say it's busted ! This has been the best knife I have ever had , easy to take an edge , long lasting & tough as old boots I've broken the hook of after dropping it on the garage floor . This wasn't the first time it's taken a fall over the years but it just landed wrong . As a professional stalker this knife has been used to the max ..I will be ordering a replacement ...
A close friend gave me the zipper knife for my retirement. I had never seen one and had to look it up. We hunted together and I will use this one with pride. It is beautiful and functional. I won 5 other buck knifes and got my first when I was 12 from dad.
I own a Buck 110,112, and 102, I love all of them, and have had some for many years. I fell in love with this one at first sight, and it is everything I could ask for in a hunting/survival knife!.
I GOT MY BUCK 691 GIVEN TO ME BY A FRIEND AND HAD TO SEND IT BACK TO BUCK CAUSE THE KNIFE BLADE WAS DAMAGED. BUCK REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE. I CARRIED IT DEER HUNTING FALL 2016 NEVER GOT CHANCE TO USE IT. WENT TO MY UNCLES IN DECEMBER MY COUSIN AND UNCLE BOTH GOT A DEER WE TRIED MY NEW BUCK 691 AND USED IT ON BOTH DEER AND NEVER HAD TO SHARPEN IT AT ALL SO STILL HAS FACTORY EDGE THAT REALLY AMAZED ME. I REALLY LIKE THE WEIGHT AND FEEL OF THIS KNIFE THIS WILL BE MY PRIMARY HUNTING KNIFE FROM NOW ON. BEFORE I WAS GIVEN THIS KNIFE I CARRIED MY BUCK 679 MAXLIGHT GUTHOOK KNIFE THAT I BOUGHT NEW IN 2012 AND IT HAS BEEN USED ON ANYTHING FROM SQUIRRL''S TO RABBITS AND HAS BEEN A REALLY AWSOME KNIFE.
