Available Features and Options

S30V Steel

We consider this the absolute best blade steel available, and it is made in America. S30V contains carbon as well as high amounts of Chromium, Molybdenum and Vanadium. This steel combines fantastic edge retention and high ductility combined with corrosion resistance. Double-tempered - it can be hardened to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 59.5-61. However, it is difficult to resharpen yourself, but we do offer sharpening services for a nominal fee.

420HC Steel

This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.

Won't Rust

I bought this knife for my father-in-law over 30 years ago. He passed away in 1987 and the knife sat in a desk drawer until 2009 when our town experienced extensive flooding. This knife was wet for about 4 months until my wife and I found it and some other pocket knives. The knife was as good as new. This goes to show the quality and durability of Buck knives.

You won't regret it!

Anyone who is entertaining the thought of treating themselves to a custom knife, or is going to drop the hint to others for a gift, then consider a Custom Buck. I recently purchased a Squire with nickel bolsters, polished blade, engraving, and Buckeye Burlwood handles. Besides the girlfriend I had when I was a young man, it is the most exquisite jem I have ever seen! The craftsmanship, care, time, and effort, that must have been put into making it, is, obvious. It is so beautiful that I almost don't want to use it; but I am going to do so anyway. It is now my standard carry knife. It is rare when you find a Company nowadays that still makes an excellent USA product. Buck is one of them. Treat yourself to a Buck! You won't regret it!

The Best of The Best

My first love gave me this blade thirty years ago. It was my constant pocket companion. It was like her a classic beauty, all American, sturdy and good. Sadly the knife she gave me was stolen. She was taken from me as well. I couldn't replace her or the sentimental value of my prized gift but unlike her I was able to replace the companionship of an old true beautiful friend.Thank you Buck Knives for being more than a knife maker. Your company makes memories and heirlooms. God bless you all.

Custom Squire is great.

I just received a custom Squire knife from Buck's custom shop. It is great. Fit and finish are excellent. Of course the S30V steel is wonderful too. Blade was sharp. Completely satisfied with this custom knife. Attention to detail was great on the handle with oak scales. Thanks Custom shop!

Twent years and still going strong.

I bought a buck 501about 30+ years ago. I have used this knife for 20+ years, used it constantly, it was always with me. I bought another knife for some reason, mostly became harder over the years to keep it like a razor, any how it sat in a drawer for the last 10 years, as I then bought many other knives over the years, I have a small collection. I recently bought some high quality knife sharpening equipment, with that I restored the edge back to shaving sharp, and the knife is as solid now as it was when I bought it. My old friend is back (501) and I just wanted to say something for the quality of Buck knives. It must be hard to stay in business when your customer does not need to buy another because the first one he bought is so wonderfully made that after twenty years of use it is still going strong! Great job Buck!

Worth it

So I got this old knife from a friend when I was eight and it's still in great condition. I have dropped it in water, whittled sticks, etc. And after all those years it is still very sharp and is not even rusted. I prefer you to get the knife, 'cause you won't regret it.

Squire the way I love it!

First post here, and first ever purchase from the Buck Custom Shop. Honestly it was during my youth that I became acquainted with Buck when I purchased my first well, it was called the "Esquire" then but it was the model 501 so the same knife with the original steel tho, and micarta handles. I lost than knife and another that had wood handles bought to replace it. Both of these were knives on me everyday. I carried them like I carried my wallet, in other words all the time. They were sadly missed but somehow other knife brands swayed me from that and about that time the liner was coming out and I played with that. This went on for years and here I am back to the original asking myself why I didn't stick with what worked in the first place! This little knife will be with me for a long time. I hope with the help of the custom kangaroo leather sheath for my pocket that my wife made for me keeps this one snug in my possession because its the finest Buck knife I have owned to date and I've owned quite a few now and good ones! Lock up is as rock solid as anyone could ask! The blade is so well done with such excellent edge geometry that it is a joy to use in the kitchen, the field or the bed of the old flat bed doing various chores with it all the while comfortable in the bare hand. One couldn't ask for more and its so handsome with the horn handles Buck did oh so well! One day I hope this one will be a hand me down to one of my grandsons. Its that nice and based on my original Buck 112 from 1973 when I bought that and how well its held up this one should do just fine. Thanks Buck for knocking one out of the park. Its good to be home!
