We consider this the absolute best blade steel available, and it is made in America. S30V contains carbon as well as high amounts of Chromium, Molybdenum and Vanadium. This steel combines fantastic edge retention and high ductility combined with corrosion resistance. Double-tempered - it can be hardened to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 59.5-61. However, it is difficult to resharpen yourself, but we do offer sharpening services for a nominal fee.
This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
I ordered a custom 112 Ranger from Buck. The craftsmanship is superb. Years ago I swore not to buy another buck product after snapping a 103 in 2. Am i glad i changed my mine. I chose cherry blanks, black 420 blade, finger grooves and rivets. I can tell you its one pretty knife. It far surpasses the Case that i have carried for more than 30 years. I would like to send a special thanks to the craftsman who built her, it will be an heirloom that i will be proud to carry and pass down, WHAT A KNIFE!!!!!!! T he only complaint i have is it would look better in a brown sheath with a basket weave pattern. Maybe ill just make my own.
I just received my 112 and it came out great! I am a precision grinder and have been for over 40 years and the workmanship is excellent.
Extremely happy with my first Buck Custom Shop knife. It is so beautiful that l don't want to even use. Great job, thank you! Thomas
I opted for S30V steel, nickel bolsters and rivets, indigo handles and engraving, I also got a matching 110, a stunning set. Well worth the wait.
Quite apart from the build quality and materials, for me it's the sheer perfection of the design that holds the eye and quickens the heart!. If there isn't a Buck 110 -112 in the MOMO there should be!.(...and don't forget I told yuh so...PITUI).
I love the 112. To me its a perfect in between size that may be a little much for an office setting but is a great fit for so many tasks. I love the design of the knife as well. Very cool. I got mine with nickel bolsters, blue wood and S30V. Almost too beautiful too use but I gotta remind myself... It's a knife and it wants to cut stuff. Thanks Buck
I ordered a custom 112 with S30v blade, nickel silver bolsters and water buffalo handles, initials on the rear bolster, no rivets or finger grooves. Order was filled, shipped, and delivered in less than a month. It turned out to be a beautiful knife. I'd like to thank Dana for taking the time to build it and provide me with a great knife. Great work! Its a solid knife, razor sharp, and beautiful to boot. Thank you Buck and thank you most sincerely Dana!
I just received my son's special order knife I had made for his birthday. Thanks for the GR8 job you did on his knife. I almost want to keep it for myself. LOL LOL
Got a Buck 112+ very inexpensively at a garage sale. Code date is 1991. Original owner had it in his tackle box. It was a mess. First, I coated it with Ballistol oil. Let soak. Oil removed most of the dirt. Brass ends and rivets took on a stain. Sanding removed. Polished up bright. Blade has no stain but heavily scratched and dull. Appears to be standard high carbon. Polishing removed most of the scratches and edge sharpened nicely. Blade has a nice feel and lock is smooth and positive. The only thing I can not remove are the hammer marks in the brass ends left by the original owner. I want to hammer him. Knife ready for its second owner.
The overal impression is a very nice knife. The metal construction is beyond great. With over 20 knots the burl wood handle is..............
I have to give it up to Buck's Custom Shop. The burlwood handle took some time to grow on me and it has done just that. The CRAFTMANSHIP is above expectations. I love my first Buck CUSTOM Knife. 10 stars
I am the Chairman for one of the Southern California Motorcycling Association's Premier Long Distance rides called the Best 15 US Roads Challenge. The roads are spread throughout the lower forty eight states, and a rider may cover 12,000 miles or more to ride each road. We awarded the thirteen 2015 Finishers with an engraved Buck 112 Ranger, a fitting award for finishing such a tough motorcycle ride challenge. The Buck was very well received by all of the riders. One rider was so impressed that he has already completed the ride again this year, so that he will have a second Buck 112 Ranger...one for each of his grandsons!
My custom 112 just arrived. Totally blown away. Best little pig sticker I have seen in a long time. Fit finish are perfect. SV30 blade razor sharp.
I lost my best knife (a Buck) in Alaska back in 1989, the flap on case opened somewhere , I was 22 miles N/W of Chicken, Ak. As soon as I got back to Fairbanks, I bought another Buck, a 112V. Love it and use it often. I bought a Buck, 288 not long ago, just the right size, to clip to pocket. Quality counts Thanks Buck Knives.
I worked on cutting down cardboard boxes for 20 minutes, the 420HC steel held quite well during that test. I chose finger grooves for my knife, which makes it fit in hand like a glove and provides more grip, The 112 is also better for smaller hands. Lastly. the Construction is amazing, as there was no problems with the Custom Shop. They know what they're doing. !
Just received my custom Buck Ranger 112. Very seldom I write a review on a product but when I seen the quality, fit and finish of the knife I just had to say a big thank you. Very proud to call this Buck Knife mine.
I had been debating on having a 112 made for several months before I actually bought one. I have two 112s, one was a gift from my great-grandfather and the other was a silver nickel bolster anniversary that I found at a garage sale. I love them both and I use them frequently. I had just toured the Buck Knives factory and I really wanted to get myself a gift for making it into an MBA program. I pulled the trigger and got the S30V finger groove with Elk bolsters. It is a beautiful knife! The quality is stunning, much better than the stock knives. My only complaint is that this knife came with polishing compound caked in the thumb nail slot and around the lock mechanism. Other than that, this was well worth the price and something I will hand down when my time is up.
My father purchased my Buck 112 when I was 10 years old. I must admit, Buck has sent me a new sheath. My bird dog puppy found it to be a great chew toy. This is the only product issue I have had. I have sharpened the blade once. There is no telling how many deer it has skinned, ducks, quail, dove, and pheasant it has cleaned, frog legs it has prepared, and fish it has eviscerated. I own a collection of knives... Case, Boker, and custom hand made just to name a few. The Buck 112 is second to none!
I just ordered this awesome knife and received it few days ago. Not only was it packaged beautifully, the custom knife is my most awesome and beautiful knife of all the buck knives I have and I have a lot of buck knives. I recommend this knife to have for your collection.. I give it 5 stars.. Dan
Purchased this custom 112 for every day carry. Just can't do it! It is too perfect. Fit and finish is next to none. This 112 has got to be 1 in a 1,000 in quality. I can't find a flaw in it. That's it...now in going to have to find an old one and start carrying it. Just can't talk myself in to carrying this beautiful S30V with elk scales!
Perfect!!! Ordered for my son to commemorate harvesting his first buck. Finish, engraving, and construction are fantastic. Thank you!
I love the knife, now for the knit picking. High polish blade-10, wish it had nickle silver bolsters as an option. Now the Elk scales. To me, could have been better matched along the spine. On one side it doesn't fill the frame. So flat, rivets would have looked good. Initials are cool but very light. Pricey knife but fun to have. I would design another one. And probably will. Fun if you have the bucks. Get it? S.D.
Also want to mention that this knife is finished beautifully and besides, how many places can you go to design your own American made classic tradition? Kudos BUCK!
After $200 and 5+ weeks of waiting for my personalized ranger knife I recieved it. Eager to open the box, I did so and was greatly surprised as I looked at the customization of my knife. Instead of engraving AMC the engraving read AMG. The G must be for Genius at work. No this was not a mistake on my part, as I took a screen shot of my previewed knife during my order when it was placed. Now I was told they will "buff" it out and redo it. BS for $200 bucks on a knife I should be getting a new bolster, not one buffed. I should also be getting expedited shipping on the return package. Buck Knives you guys and gals must be kidding me. This is not quality service. At all.
For me the dimensions of this knife are almost perfect. I have large hands but prefer to work with a shorter blade, under 4". As a result I find that most hunting knives have either a blade that is a little too long, or a handle that is a little to small. More than any other knife I've used this knife seems to be sized just right, both the handle and the blade. I've used it for everything from cleaning fish, to quartering moose and elk. The steel is good enough to handle most jobs, it wont quarter an elk without needing a touch up at partway through, but it will dress and skin a deer with only a few swipes needed to bring it back to shaving sharp. Its plenty of knife for anything you can reasonably ask of it.
I ordered a custom knife and the quality, of course, is fantastic. The knife is beautiful and high quality. However, when it comes to the sheath, they got as cheap as all get out, and the sheath has stained the knife after only a couple months. Great knife, get a better sheath for it and you'll be happy forever.
I order the custom 112 with the black blade. When I received the knife part of the spine was not black. It was the silverish color of the usual 420HC blade. I got in touch with buck and was told that their normal procedure was to sand the blade when finishing it. And that this can remove the black oxide from the spine. And they did not offer to do anything I have other knives with black blades. None have even the slightest spot where the black is missing, including on the spine. When you pay $150 for a knife, it should be the way you order it.
