This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
This blade is full bellied with a strong, thick point for heavier tasks. It can also be used as a general work knife. The top of the blade drops down toward the tip, which minimizes accidental puncturing while skinning. The drop point blade is strong and very versatile.
For great performance when field dressing game, a gut or skinning hook is an ideal tool. We’ve paid careful attention to the angles on the sharpened edge, shape and size of the entry opening and location of the hook on the blade, making a Buck gut hook the best.
I HAVE HAD MY BUCK MAXLITE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 . BEFORE THIS I HAD THE BUCK DIAMOND BACK AND IT GOT TO POINT TO WHERE IT WOULD NO LONGER GET SHARP AT ALL I SENT IT BACK TO BUCK. I GOT THE BUCK MAXLITE WITH GUTHOOK AS A REPLACEMANT AND HAVE USED IT SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 I HAVE USED IT ON MANY OF SQUIRRL'S SINCE OWNING IT AND THIS KNIFE HAS HELD UP GREAT AND ALWAYS AM ABLE TO GET IT RAZOR SHARP TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I REALLY LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO CLEAN UP AFTER USING IT ON GAME. I HAVE EVEN USED IT TO CUT UP FOOD WHILE OUT HUNTING OR OPENING BAGS OF CHIPS OUT IN WOODS TO SNACK ON. I ALSO OWN THE BUCK 673 THAT I USE TO SQUIRRL HUNT ALSO I EVEN GOT TO USE THE 673 MAXLITE ON MY FOUR POINT BUCK THAT I SHOT IN WINTER OF 2011.
BACK IN DECEMBER 2008 I GOT THE BUCK DIAMONDBACK FIXED BLADE GUTHOOK VERSION I USED IT HUNTING FROM 2009 TILL 2011 HUNTING SEASON WITH NO ISSUES. THEN IN SEPT 2012 GET IT OUT TO SHARPEN IT UP ON A STONE AND WOULD NOT TAKE A EDGE DUE TO BAD STEEL IN THE BLADE . THE DIAMONDBACK WAS MADE FROM 2006-2008 A CHEAPER SERIES FIXED BLADE MADE IN CHINA WITH 420 J2 STEEL. SENT IT BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2012 AND THEY SENT ME THE BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK VERSION USA MADE I HAVE CARRIED IT SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 AND EVERY HUNTING SEASON SINCE WITH NO ISSUES IT GETS LIKE A RAZOR EVERY TIME IT IS MADE FROM 420 HC STEEL IT HAS BEEN USED ON SEVERAL SQUIRRL'S AND RABBITS AS WELL AND IS MY FAVORITE KNIFE THAT I OWN EVERYTIME I GO IN THE WOODS THIS KNIFE IS ALWAYS ON MY BELT ALONG WITH THE SMALLER 673. I HAVE HAD MY BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK FIXED BLADE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 . I USED IT ON SEVERAL SQUIRRL'S DURING 2012 HUNTING SEASON PROB 10 SQUIRRLS TOTAL THAT YEAR . THE KNIFE IS A GREAT KNIFE IT HAS A NICE WIDE BLADE THAT HOLDS A EDGE FOR A LONG TIME DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH HUNTING YOU DO . I HAVENT GOT YET TO TRY IT ON A DEER YET BUT I HOPE I GET ONE THIS DEER SEASON OF 2015. I HAVE EVEN USED THIS BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK AS A KITCHEN KNIFE AND IT ALSO WORKS GREAT FOR THAT AS WELL . I HAVE EVEN USED THE SMALLER 673 THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE CHRISTMAS 2010. IT HAS BEEN USED TO SQUIRRL HUNT AND WAS USED ON A DEER DURING 2011 DEER SEASON . I HAVE ALSO USED THIS 673 AS A KITCHEN KNIFE AS WELL AND IT WORKS AWSOME AS A KITCHEN KNIFE DUE TO ITS SMALL SIZE .15
I HAVE A 2012 BUCK MAXLITE GUTHOOK FIXED BLADE THAT I HAVE OWNED SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 . THIS KNIFE HAS BEEN GREAT IT HAS BEEN USED ON 13-20 RED/GREY SQUIRRL'S AND ALSO THREE RABBIT'S. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE WITH THIS KNIFE IT ALWAYS GETS RAZOR SHARP WHEN U SPEND ABOUT A1/2 HOUR /1 HOUR ON IT SHARPENING ON A STONE . THIS IS THE ONLY GUTHOOK KNIFE I GOT OTHER THAN THE BUCK 390 OMNI COMBO WITH PACKLITE GUTHOOK RING. I ALSO OWN THE LITTLE BROTHER TO THE 679 IS MY 673 AND IS A GREAT SQUIRRL HUNTING KNIFE AS WELL.
I HAVE A 2012 BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK KNIFE . PRIOR TO THIS I HAD THE BUCK DIAMONDBACK THAT WAS MADE 2006-2008 GOT IT CHRISTMAS 2008 USED IT FROM 2009-2011 WHEN IT FINNALLY WOULD NOT SHARPEN DUE TO DEAD SPOT IN BLADE. I SENT IT BACK TO BUCK AND THEY SENT ME THE NEW SERIES BUCK MAXLITE THAT IS USA MADE. I HAVE USED THIS BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK SERIES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 AND HAVE CARRIED IT HUNTING EVERY YEAR SINCE THEN. SO FAR IT HAS BEEN USED ON ABOUT 10-15 SQUIRRL'S AND THREE RABBIT'S . THIS KNIFE SHARPEN'S OUT LIKE A RAZOR YEAR AFTER YEAR WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL. I REALLY ENJOY THIS KNIFE AND CARRY IT ALL THE TIME HUNTING AND THIS KNIFE IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT AND IS VERY EASY TO CARRY ON A BELT AND IT HAS A VERY NICE SIZE BLADE TO USE FOR ALL TYPES OF HUNTING . I HAVE EVEN CARRIED IT WHEN WALKING WOODS AND EVEN HAVE CARRIED IT COYOTE HUNTING DURING THE WINTER. I ALSO OWN THE SMALLER 673 WHICH HAS ALSO BEEN USED AS WELL ON QUITE A FEW SQUIRRL'S AND RABBIT'S AND IT HAS NEVER CAUSED ME A ISSUE AT ALL EITHER I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE CHRISTMAS 2010. THE 673 ALSO HOLDS A VERY NICE EDGE AND STAY'S SHARP A LONG TIME. BOTH KNIVES ARE VERY EASY TO TOUCH THE EDGE UP ON IT ONLY TAKES ME A 1/2 HOUR TO DO BOTH KNIVES . I CARRY MY 673 IN MY HUNTING BACKPACK THAT WAY IT IS ALWAYS WITH ME NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF HUNTING I AM DOING.
I OWN & USE 2 OF THE 679'S (LARGE) AND 1 OF THE SMALLER VERSION. I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL OF THE "VANTAGE" SERIES OF BUCK FOLDERS. SIMPLY PUT...THESE KNIVES ARE SUPERB QUALITY IN EVERY WAY, MADE IN THE USA AND PRICED SUPER-EXTRA RIGHT!!! NO OTHER KNIVES ARE EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE!
I HAVE OWNED THIS KNIFE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 I CARRIED IT FROM SEPTEMBER TILL THE END OF JANUARY 2013. AFTER GETTING THIS KNIFE IN SEPTEMBER 2012 IT GOT TO BE USED ON ABOUT SIX-EIGHT SQUIRRL'S THAT YEAR. EVEN GOT TO USE IT ON A FEW RABBIT'S ALSO. I REALLY LIKE THE DESGIN AND WEIGHT OF THE KNIFE AND THE WAY THE KNIFE HANDLE IS DESIGNED AS WELL . ALSO LIKE THE STYLE OF THE BLADE AND HOW SHARP THE BLADE STAY'S FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH THE KNIFE GETS USED I ONLY HAVE TO SHARPEN IT ONLY ABOUT SIX -7 TIMES DURING THE HUNTING SEASON FROM SEPTEMBER TILL JANUARY.
I HAD THE OLDER VERSION OF THIS WHICH WAS THE BUCK DIAMONDBACK IT WAS MADE FROM 2006-2008 . MINE WAS A 2006 DATE CODE GOT IT CHRISTMAS 2008 USED IT HUNTING FROM 2009 TILL 2011 WHEN I HAD TO SEND IT BACK IN SEPT 2012 DUE TO BAD STEEL. IN RETURN I GOT THE BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUT HOOK VERSION THAT IS USA MADE I HAVE USED IT CONSTANTLY DURING HUNTING SEASON FROM SEPTEMBER 2012 TILL NOW AND IT IS STILL GOING STRONG AND IS HOLDING UP VERY WELL FOR ME. IT WILL GET VERY SHARP AND STAY THAT WAY I DONT HAVE TO TOUCH IT UP VERY OFTEN DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH I USE IT. IT HAS BEEN USED ON QUIT A FEW SQUIRRL'S SINCE 2012 AND A FEW RABBITS. I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO USE IT ON A DEER YET. I HAVE ALSO CARRIED IT OUT WHILE COYOTE HUNTING AND IT IS SO LIGHT WEIGHT THAT YOU CANT EVEN TELL YOU HAVE IT ON YOUR BELT AT ALL I WOULD SUGGEST THIS KNIFE TO ANYONE WANTING A GOOD HUNTING KNIFE. I ALSO OWN THE SMALLER 673 WHICH HAS BEEN CARRIED AND USED THE SAME WAY AND IS FROM 2010 AND IT HAS HELD UP GREAT ALSO WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL. THE NYLON SHEATH FOR BOTH KNIVES IS VERY WELL BUILT AND IS VERY EASY TO CLEAN USING DAWN DISH SOAP AND HOT WATER CLEANING IT BY HAND IS THE BEST WAY TO DO THE SHEATH THEN LEAVE IT LAY ON COUNTER AND AIR DRY BEFORE PUTTING THE KNIFE BACK IN.
I HAVE A BUCK 679 MAXLITE GUTHOOK THAT HAS A DATE CODE OF 2011 . I HAVE OWNED THE KNIFE SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2012 AND HAVE USED IT TO SQUIRRL HUNT AND HAVE USED THIS KNIFE ON AT LEAST 15-20 SQUIRRL'S SINCE IVE OWNED IT. I HAVE ALSO CARRIED IT DEER HUNTING BUT HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO USE IT ON A DEER YET. I HAVE ALSO CARRIED IT WHILE OUT COYOTE HUNTING DURING FEBUARY 2014 IN FOUR INCHES OF SNOW AND 20 DEGREE WEATHER. THIS BUCK 679 IS MY FAVORITE KNIFE AND IT REALLY STAY'S SHARP FOR A LONG EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME . ONLY HAVE TO SHARPEN MINE ABOUT EIGHT TO TEN DIFFERANT TIMES FROM SEPTEMBER 1 TILL JANUARY 31. MY BUCK KNIVES GET USED CONSTANTLY THROUGH THE WINTER AND ALWAYS HAVE HELD UP GREAT FOR ME AND ALWAYS STAY SHARP. BUCK KNIVES ARE MY EVERYDAY CARRY AND ONLY BRAND THAT I USE HUNTING AS WELL YEAR AFTER YEAR.
I loved this knife. It's works great and does everything I have it cut. I actually only got to use it on two deer. And then next deer season rolled around and sadly it was stolen along with another brand new Buck that I bought the week before, never even got a chance to use it. I was very upset. The BuckLite Max knife worked great overall I'd recommend it to anyone. I recently ordered the Paklite Field Master pack and in waiting on that to come in.
I love this knife. I have the orange version and it is deadly sharp. The guthook opens up bellies like there was a hidden zipper under there and you pulled it. My only concern is that when you clean it water and soap get behind the handle and so it may rust over time.
