BUCK KNIVES MASTODON TUSKS SHOWCASE AT MASTODON EXHIBIT
Mastodon tusks make their way to Spokane, Washington
Post Falls, Idaho (May 1, 2017) -Two complete tusks from a prehistoric mastodon belonging to Buck Knives have made their way to Spokane, Washington. As part of the Titans of the Ice Age: Mammoths and Mastodons exhibit held by the Northwest Museum, the mastodon tusks will be on display among the many other exhibits.
The tusks came from a gold mine in Chicken, Alaska and settled in to the Buck factory around 1982. Taking up residency on the top floor of the factory in the middle of Buck's mini museum, the mastodon tusks have been a site for those visiting the Buck Knives factory.
"We've been grateful to Buck Knives for the donation of mastodon tusk samples for the exhibit. Their tusks are the first taste of the exhibit that visitors see when they enter the museum. Young children and kids of all ages have been excited to take a sample of mastodon tusk home with them. It connects them to the past, and to our Inland Northwest connection to mammoths and mastodons in a special way," said Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture's Executive Director Wesley Jessup.
The Titans of the Ice Age: Mammoths and Mastodons exhibit runs until May 7, 2017. Titans of the Ice Age explores Ice Age creatures and features saber-toothed cats, giant bears, prehistoric animal bones and interactive exhibits,
Exhibit information can be found at www.northwestmuseum.org. Open Tues-Sunday 10 am -5 pm. Tuesdays half-price.
