Has a thumb stud, blade hole or other feature to facilitate one-hand use. Some models are one-hand opening and one-hand closing as well..
This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
This blade is full bellied with a strong, thick point for heavier tasks. It can also be used as a general work knife. The top of the blade drops down toward the tip, which minimizes accidental puncturing while skinning. The drop point blade is strong and very versatile.
I own several Buck Knives including an old 110 I bought myself when I was in the Navy and a 50th anniversary 110. Both exhibit Bucks uncompromising quality! The 285C I purchased is another story. It is thin and light making it an easy carry, but the opening mechanism is rough and uneven making it very difficult to open with the thumb stud. The finish on the blade is rough, the hollow ground area shows machining and the cutting edge looks like they used a grinder. After a good wet stone was used it is holding an edge well. Looks durable and should last, but the finish work could be better. Expected a little more from Buck.
Good knife I use it just about every day. Nice and lite but strong knife stay nice and sharp love it.
I purchased this knife from the factory store in Post Falls for on duty carry as a police officer three years ago. I also purchased a larger 286 for home use at the same time, but the 285 quickly became my favorite. This has been the best knife I have ever purchased. Its small size makes it perfect to be carried unnoticed in a side cargo pocket but very quick and easy to get to. Its highly polished surfaces makes it very smooth opening and it positively locks without fear of it ever closing on your precious fingers at the worst possible time. The blade is long enough to do anything I have ever needed and it holds a great edge. Gotta love a product made in America by those committed to Christian beliefs and who are so supportive to our law enforcement and military. Go Buck!!!
I purchased this recently to replace my daily carry pocket knife. I have a Buck 110 Folding Hunter, a Buck 112 Ranger, and a Buck 301 Stockman, all great knives. The 110 and 112 are a little big and heavy for a daily carry pocket knife. I really like and carried the 301 for many years, but I wanted a lockback for daily carry. This Bantam BLW is just right for me. I have used Buck knives for many years and have always been very pleased.
Used to hunt a lot, still fish when time permits. Own several Bucks, some others including a Randall. Another great product and at a super price point. And as always I greatly appreciate the integrity to stand behind your faith and not for the sake of selling more knives but because it's who you are.
Takes two hands to open, feels gritty and binding. The release is horrible. Even after oiling with Rem oil and open and closing 50 times. It is way to tight and gritty. Payed $25.00 at dicks sporting goods and have better $5.00 Winchester knifes from Walmart with much better quality.
I live in Japan, and have been a fan of Buck Knives for more than three (3) decades now. I have recently purchased this Bantam/BLW/285, Black Handle. I have actually been wanting this knife since about two (2) years ago, but refraining to buy it with only one (1) reason of the statement by saying “U.S. Made of U.S. and Imported Parts”, which this “Imported Parts” must mean Made in China. But, I have recently decided to buy it since I took the value of Buck instead of the cheap country like China. My most concern was the Mold Injection Handle, which should be “Imported Parts”, but my concern has just been blown away upon receipt of this Knife. This Handle is so great!! The entire Knife is very light, plus the blade is a tough 420HC, Razor Sharp Blade, and is very easy to Sharpen. This is a perfect EDC Knife! This has quickly become one of my most favorite Buck Knife. I’m planning to put a U.S. Made Paracord with some nice Japanese made Paracord beads to make it look more beautiful. Again, thanks, my #1 Knife Maker in U.S.!!
This is the bare bones work truck of knives. You get a high quality made in the USA blade in a no-frills package that does what it's intended to do - cut stuff. Not paying extra money for a fancy handle and sheath. I have much nicer, more expensive Buck knives which I of course hold in higher regard, but for the price these bantams sure have their place. Great quality blade. Truly a utilitarian no frills tool that functions terrifically and fills a niche perfectly.
I love it ,my son got it for me chirstmass 2014 .
I have purchased roughly 30 knives from Buck and I keep returning for one reason - the made in the USA quality manufacturing and the reliability. This pocket knife his no different. I bought it in the copperhead finish and have been beating on it the last 4 months with no complaints. I'm a Buck man for life.
Really nice knife for the money and made in USA a plus . Cool patterns and colors to pick from.
I have had the knife for about two years now. I honestly love the camo look and the fact its very reliable. But the clip wears out only complaint though worth every penny for the knife.
I bought it as a city of the knife. I use it for 7 months. It is light, very pleasant to hold in your hand. Quality steel at a height as my 110 anniversary. There is a small backlash the blade. This occurs due to the flexibility of plastic handles. Satin finish blade slopes decelerated in the products, cutting off slightly hampered, scabrous. As a result, this a good knife, but in its price. If you add a little bit of metal inside the grip around the blade mount and make a smoother finish blade bevel, it would be super.
I've had this knife for about two and a half years now, And it's done everything i have needed it to accomplish as a Boy Scout and a Cadet in ROTC. I've got no complaints about this knife, It's been dropped, Beaten countless times and worked though many rigorous activities. Holds a fine edge very well, and sharpens up nicely. I recommend purchasing this knife for yourself, it's a great quality flip knife.
Me honesty I think that the blade is great and holdes for along time plus I like my color of the handle which its coal black and I like the other colors to but thanks buck for a knife that I can have for long time and tell my kids about I trust you so thanks
Its a great knife. Ive had it for about 6 months now. I currently use it for my everyday carry for work in law enforcement & its perfect for what you need. A basic knife that holds its sharpness very well plus its not too heavy that it will weigh you down..very convenient. The handle fits nicely in your hands with enough leverage. Recently took it to a fishing trip in Rockport, Tx. & it held up well even in with some rough abuse. I would recommend this knife as a less expensive alternative for an everyday carry.
I just purchased this knife after looking at Many one being Kershaw. My Daughter was with me and needed something at the store...I had a budget of $50.00 so I went with the Bantam BLW because it is Made in the USA and it allowed me to get a great Knife and the item my daughter wanted and stay in my budget for both items. OKAY now comes the best part...What it says on the note they put in the package: "For God loved the world so much that He gave his only son; so that anyone who believes in Him shall not parish but have eternal life"- John 3:16...I know that God works in my life everyday since I gave my life to him and you can have the same...trust in God and you will have the best life that God promises you will have...I am so happy that God lead me to purchase this knife from a family that believes in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...God Bless Y'all!
I am a mechanic by trade, therefore anything I use must stand up to a grueling test. This knife has never failed me in the shop or anywhere else. It ranks right with my Leatherman and Streamlight for style, function, and true grit. Plus I wont hesitate to use it in a fancy restaraunt to cut up steak!!!
