This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Add our exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance we harden to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.

I GOT MY BUCK 309 COMPANION ON 6/2/2000 AS A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION GIFT AND STILL CARRY IT TODAY. THE MAIN BLADE IS NOW SHARPENED DOWN A LITTLE BIT DUE TO 14 YEARS OF CARRY AND SHARPENING. THIS KNIFE HAS ALWAYS BEEN EASY FOR ME TO SHARPEN WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL. I STILL EVEN HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOX AND PAPERS THAT CAME WITH THE KNIFE BACK THEN . ONLY TIME KNIFE DOES NOT GET CARRIED IS IF I GO IN THE WOODS TO WALK OR GO SQUIRRL HUNTING I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE IT AT ALL. THIS KNIFE HAS DONE A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING FROM OPENING MY MAIL ON A DAILY BASIS . I ALSO USED IT DURING SNOW REMOVAL FROM 7PM TILL 7 AM TWO WINTERS AGO TO OPEN 50LB BAGS OF SALT TO PUT IN A SPREADER THAT WAY IT WAS EASIER TO DO DRIVEWAYS AND SIDEWALKS. GAVE IT A GOOD BATH AFTER THAT WITH HOT WATER AND DAWN DISH SOAP. MY HANDLES ON THIS KNIFE ARE GETTING REALLY SMOOTH AFTER 14 YEARS OF EVERY DAY USE . I HAVE EVEN USED IT TO OPEN CHRISTMAS GIFTS ON CHRISTMAS DAY AND IT STILL STAYED RAZOR SHARP AFTER CUTTING BOXES OPEN AND CUTTING THROUGH TAPE AND TOUGH SEALED PACAGES. I EVEN USE IT CAMPING EVERY WEEKEND TO CUT OPEN BAGS OF ICE TO PUT IN MY COOLER. I ONLY HAVE TO SHARPEN MY KNIFE ABOUT ONCE A MONTH AND THAT IS USING IT EVERYDAY ALL DAY LONG IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH FOR ME TO GET A EDGE ON MY KNIFE AT ALL. ALL I USE IS AN ANTIQUE ARKANSAS 8" SHARPENING STONE AND A FEW OTHERS THAT CAME FROM MY NEIGHBOR WHO GREW UP ON A FARM THEY CAME FOM AN OLD BARN AT THE FARM ABOUT 15 DIFFERANT SHARPENING STONES OVER 100 YRS OLD. MY NEIGHBOR GAVE ME THESE OLD SHARPENING STONES BACK IN 1997 WHEN I WAS 15 NOW I AM 32 YEARS OLD AND STILL USE THEM TO THIS VERY DAY. I HAVE EVEN USED MY 309 COMPANION TO CUT CARDBOARD BOXES AND EVEN ROPE . I HAVE ALL BUCK KNIVES AND MY 309 IS MY BEST FRIEND DONT GO NO WHERE WITHOUT IT.
HAVE A BUCK 309 COMPANION MADE IN 1999. I GOT IT AS A GRADUATION GIFT IN 2000 MY SENIOR YEAR HIGH SCHOOL I CARRIED IT 14 YEARS STRAIGHT THE HANDLES ARE WORN SMOOTH AND STILL HOLDS A RAZOR EDGE I CARRIED IT UP TILL ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHEN I ORDERED A BUCK 303 CADET TO MAKE MY EVERYDAY CARRY KNIFE. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOX AND PAPERS THAT CAME WITH MY 309 COMPANION NOW IT STAYS IN THE ORIGINAL BOX LOCKED UP. I STILL PLAN ON CARRING IT ONCE IN A WHILE BUT MY 303 WILL SEE MORE USE THAN MY BUCK 309 COMPANION WILL. I WILL NEVER PART WITH MY 309 COMPANION BEING A GRADUATION GIFT. IT IS STILL MY FAVORITE LITTLE BUCK KNIFE I USED IT FROM CUTTING PACAGES OPEN AND OPENING CHRISTMAS GIFTS EVEN USED IT CAMPING EVERY WEEKEND IT HAS OPENED COUNTLESS BAGS OF ICE FOR MY COOLER AND EVEN USED IT TWO YEARS AGO FOR SNOW REMOVAL ALL NIGHT LONG TO OPEN 50 LB BAGS OF SALT ALL NIGHT IT STAYED RAZOR SHARP AND DID NOT NEED SHARPENED AT ALL I BRUGHT IT HOME AND GAVE IT A GOOD CLEANING . THE 309 HELD UP VERY WELL FOR ME WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AT ALL. I ORDERED A NEW 2014 BUCK 309 COMPANION TO GIVE MY NEIGHBOR AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT THIS YEAR I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HE SAY'S WHEN HE OPENS IT UP. THE BUCK BRAND HAS HELD UP WELL FOR ME AND IS THE ONLY BRAND THAT I BUY AND CARRY AS A EVERYDAY KNIFE AND IS THE ONLY BRAND OF HUNTING KNIVES I OWN AS WELL.
The 309 was my first Buck knife. It's small size makes it the perfect pocket knife, yet it is large enough to obtain a solid grip on. I love holding the 309, because it is so solidly made, and all edges are flush and polished. The springs have plenty of snap, and the blades are centered, without a hint of play. The blades can be honed to razor sharpness, and having two means you can use one for dirty jobs, like cutting tape, and the other for food and minor surgery. The 309 has utilitarian good looks, and I consider it a working gentleman's knife. You can't go wrong with any 300 series knife.
